A Vermont Country Inn in the Mad River Valley...

The Millbrook Inn

Millbrook Country Inn & Restaurant is a classic cape-style farm house built by Jack Dana in the 1850's.  He located his farmhouse close to his lumber and brick mills on the nearby Mill Brook.  Today the mills are long gone and Millbrook Inn's picturesque setting is midway between the ski slopes and the village of Waitsfield on scenic Mill Brook Road (Route 17). Henry & Ginny Perkins purchased Millbrook Country Inn in 1948 from Jack Dana's estate and turned it into a bed and breakfast inn the same year that skiers first schussed the slopes of Mad River Glen.   Since 1979, innkeepers Joan & Thom Gorman have maintained the renowned Vermont innkeeping tradition of personalized service in a friendly, unhurried atmosphere.

The wood stove You enter the inn through the warming room where the Jotl Stove blazes a warm winter welcome.  The quiet living rooms, one with a fireplace, are places to curl up in a rocking chair with a good book or enjoy a parlor game.  Although we were never the first kids on the block to embrace new technology, we now boast high-speed wireless DSL internet access throughout the inn (and the backyard as well).  Our guests can catch up on their email or surf the internet.  For those without wireless capabilities, you can either use our Dell notebook computer or hardwire your computer directly into our router.  Our  seven guest rooms,  all with private baths, are decorated with hand stenciling, antique bedsteads, and handmade quilts, ceiling fans, and have air conditioning available.

The dining room Through the years, our restaurant has earned a reputation with locals and visitors alike for fine country gourmet cuisine. When you stay with us, you choose your dinner -- complete including dessert -- from our regular restaurant menu.  Our menu includes beef, chicken, shrimp and fresh fish, in addition to our pasta entreés, imaginative vegetarian dishes and authentic Indian cuisine.  Starting with the freshest natural ingredients, we make our own pasta, soups, bread, ice cream and desserts; many of our ingredients (such as vegetables, herbs, berries, eggs, veal, and quail) come to us from local organic farmers such as Gaylord Farm.  And, of course, all of our dairy products come from Vermont cows.  Montpelier Times Argus Review 7/13/2002.  Our exquisitely decorated dining room (with fireplace) provides a relaxing, candle-lit atmosphere.  To complement your dinner, we offer a selection of wine from our travels and Vermont beerWine Basket and, should you have special needs, our small size allows us to cater to dietary requirements and preferences.  Our hearty breakfast offerings include juice, fruit, cereal, and yogurt; then guests order their choice of any combination (or all) of Joan's homemade pancakes, French toast made from our homemade Anadama bread, eggs any style, bacon, ham, sausage, and Thom's delicious home fries.  In the summer we serve outdoors on the patio, which is surrounded by our spacious lawn and gardens.

Millbrook Country Inn is conveniently located five minutes from some of the finest skiing in the east. Sugarbush offers over 100 trails that will satisfy everyone from the first-time skier to the expert.  Neighboring Mad River Glen is famous for its friendly atmosphere and challenging terrain. For Nordic skiers, excellent ski touring centers offer both groomed trails and backcountry skiing.  Joan & Thom are Mad River Glen shareholders and avid skiers and will gladly help you plan your ski day. For the non-skier, or for taking a break from skiing, both the Sugarbush Sports Center and the Bridges Sports Center are complete indoor sports facilities.

In summer and fall, the Mad River Valley offers excellent hiking, road and mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, golfing on the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed Sugarbush Golf Course, soaring at the Sugarbush Airport, tennis, horseback riding, and swimming. Or take an unhurried drive down backcountry roads to Shelburne Museum or Lake Champlain, poke around the Valley's antique and craft shops or just relax in our back yard lying in our hammock under our magnificent maples.

Join us for a vacation you won't forget!
